It’s Time to Take Risks

When was the last time you did something that scared you, like truly made you uncomfortable? If you’re drawing a blank, it might be time to shake things up a bit. Life isn’t meant to be played safe all the time. Yes, comfort feels good, but greatness rarely comes from staying in your comfort zone. It’s time to take risks and open up new doors of opportunity. You never know what’s on the other side until you try.

Here’s how to start taking more risks in your life to unlock that next level of greatness.

1. Trust Your Gut, Even When It’s Scary

We’ve all had those moments where something inside us is pushing us toward something new, but fear holds us back. Your gut knows what’s up. It’s like your internal compass, guiding you toward what’s right for you. It’s easy to dismiss those feelings when fear is whispering “stay where it’s safe.” But here’s the thing—if you trust that instinct and leap, there’s a good chance you’ll land somewhere better than you imagined.

Action Step: The next time you feel that gut feeling, don’t immediately squash it. Sit with it, let it marinate, and take a small step in the direction it’s pointing.

2. Reframe Failure as a Learning Opportunity

A huge reason many people avoid taking risks is fear of failure. Let’s face it, failure doesn’t feel great in the moment, but it’s a part of the journey toward success. Every great success story has a few bumps along the way. The key is to look at failure as feedback instead of an end-all. What didn’t work? What could you do differently next time? The quicker you embrace failure as a necessary part of growth, the faster you’ll move forward.

Action Step: Start a journal to track your risks and how they turned out. Whether you succeeded or failed, write down what you learned. This way, you can track your growth and see patterns in your decisions.

3. Start Small, But Be Consistent

Taking big risks doesn’t have to mean diving into the deep end on day one. Start small and gradually build your tolerance for risk. If you’ve been holding off on making a career change, maybe the first step is to talk to someone who’s already made that leap. Want to try something adventurous? Try something small first, like a new workout class, before going skydiving. The key is to push yourself little by little until the big risks don’t feel as daunting.

Action Step: Pick one small risk you’ve been avoiding and commit to taking it this week. It could be anything—sending an email you’ve been putting off, signing up for an event, or sharing your work with others.

4. Surround Yourself with Risk-Takers

Ever notice how some people seem to thrive when they take risks? They inspire you, don’t they? The energy of someone willing to take a leap is contagious. If you’re struggling to step out of your comfort zone, look around. Are you surrounded by people who are also playing it safe? If so, it might be time to expand your circle. Surround yourself with risk-takers, dreamers, and go-getters who are living boldly, and you’ll start to feel more comfortable doing the same.

Action Step: Connect with a community of like-minded individuals who are taking risks in their own lives. It could be an online group, local meetups, or even a few friends who encourage you to step outside your bubble.

5. Stop Waiting for “The Perfect Time”

One of the most common excuses for not taking risks is waiting for the “perfect” time. Here’s the truth: There is no perfect time. Life is messy, and things are always going to come up. Waiting for everything to align perfectly will keep you stuck in place. The best time to take a risk? Now. It’s about recognizing that you’ll never have all the answers, but you don’t need them to get started.

Action Step: Think about something you’ve been putting off because you’re waiting for the right moment. What small step can you take right now, today, to get the ball rolling? Just start.

6. Celebrate Every Win, No Matter How Small

When you take risks, big or small, it deserves to be celebrated. It’s a sign you’re stepping out of your comfort zone and growing. Acknowledge every win, even if it’s just trying something new that scares you. The more you recognize your courage, the more confident you’ll become in taking even bigger risks in the future.

Action Step: After each risk you take, reward yourself. It could be something small like treating yourself to your favorite dessert or something bigger like a weekend getaway. Celebrate the fact that you took a step forward.

Take Risks and Get After It!

Life isn’t meant to be lived on the sidelines. If you want to achieve greatness, you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone and take risks. Trust your gut, reframe failure, and stop waiting for the perfect moment. By surrounding yourself with bold people and celebrating every risk you take, you’ll start to see just how much you’re capable of achieving … and you’ll change your life!

So, what’s the next risk you’re willing to take?

Make It Happen!

It’s easy to spend time thinking about what could happen. You imagine better outcomes, new opportunities, or different directions your life could take. But just thinking about a possibility doesn’t make it happen. At some point, you have to move from possibility to...
