How to Get a Jump Start on Your Spring Cleaning

by | Mar 6, 2024 | Inspiration

Spring is one of the greatest times of the year. After months of cold and gloomy weather, the sun finally begins to emerge again. Flowers bloom, animals make their return, rain falls in showers, and the scent of springtime fills the air.

It’s the perfect in-between from winter to summer, and something about emerging from a snowy hibernation makes people want to clean like there is no tomorrow. Spring cleaning is a great way to keep up on annual maintenance around your house in order to make sure it’s prepared for another year of living.

Looking for some tricks to make your spring cleaning more manageable? We have you covered.

Make a To-Do List

Writing out a to-do list is more important than most people think. Making a list can help you visualize the tasks at hand. Taking each assignment one at a time and crossing them off a list as you go not only lets you see your progress, but also gives you an extra boost of accomplishment every time you strike something from the list.

Here is an example list to help you get started:

  • Pick up debris in the backyard
  • Vaccuum the living room
  • Dust kitchen cabinets
  • Sort all laundry into hampers
  • Mop the floors
  • Reorganize the playroom

Keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way. Having too many items on your to-do list may have the opposite effect of motivation. Make a sizeable but manageable list, and then reevaluate once you finish it. If you feel like you have the energy to do more, great! If you feel like being done when you reach the end of the list, that’s great too, as you finished all you set out to do. Take each accomplishment from the list in stride.

Tackle One Big Project

Your spring-cleaning list is probably going to be full of small-scale tasks. Cleaning the garage, picking up the living room, decluttering the office … these are normal everyday tasks that no doubt need to be done. But maybe you have a few grander plans in mind.

Maybe you want to tackle some major home improvement, like building a deck in the backyard, or expanding a room in your house. You can find some inexpensive home DIY projects here

Just like your to-do list, don’t feel the need to do every project all at once. Accomplish one or two that you really want to get done, and then reevaluate how much more you feel like you want to take on. Your home is going to look and feel like new in no time.

Sell or Donate Your Stuff

During your cleaning projects, you’re bound to come across a plethora of things that, let’s face it, you just don’t need any more. A great way to clean up your space while making room for new items is to sell your unwanted stuff.

There are plenty of ways to find buyers interested in your items. Sites like Decluttr™ help you list and sell your old and unwanted tech gear quickly, and it’s free!

Have a lot of big items to sell like furniture and other household items? Setting up a yard sale is a great way to make some money and interact with your community. Have kids that also want to help? Let them sell lemonade or baked goods at the sale so they can make some moolah along with you.

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling, then simply donate it all.

Enjoy It!

While spring cleaning can be hard work, it is also a great opportunity to have a little fun. Play some upbeat music while you and your family clean the house. Maybe it’s time to finally listen to that audiobook you have been meaning to get around to. Plug in your headphones and get to work.

When you are all finished with your list, you will have a new and improved space to make your own. Spring cleaning can surely be a chore, but with the right attitude and mindset, it can be just as rewarding.
