Coaches and mentors are lifesavers. They have the wisdom and skills to help people rise above difficult situations and achieve great things. With the guidance of an effective coach, you gain confidence to take a step towards the realization of your goals.  A life coach can be someone in your family, school or workplace. Many people nowadays also opt to hire the services of a professional life coach.

Still, there is no rule saying that mentors should be someone other than yourself. Mentors can lead and inspire but you still have the final say on your actions and decisions.  This means that anyone (with the right mindset and proper knowledge) can serve as their own mentor. Lead yourself to success with the following self-coaching strategies:

Cultivate self-awareness.

The great philosopher Aristotle once said; “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” As the quote implies, being self-aware makes you smarter as it increases your chance of doing things right. It helps you make wise decisions and take proper actions. To be your own life coach, the initial goal should be to be more self-aware. You can achieve this by mindfully taking steps to have  a clear understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses. Exploring your interests and listening to others will also help you understand yourself better.

Face your fears.

Everyone is afraid of something, but how we react to those fears makes all the difference. To be a better self-coach, you need to acknowledge the things that you are afraid of and have the guts to conquer them. Coming face-to-face with your fears is never an easy challenge so it is possible and understandable to think about giving up while in the process. However, if you vow to stay tough and determined, you can successfully rise above your difficulties and enjoy the rewards that come with finally conquering your fears.

Try  visualization and affirmation techniques.

The direct relation of positive thinking in one’s success has been proven by many studies. It will therefore be helpful to train your mind to think of good thoughts. Picture yourself succeeding in everything you do and you may just find it easier to realize your visions. It is likewise a good idea to be conscious of the things you say yourself. Positive self-affirmations can free your mind of negative things and help you realize your potential.

Seek support from others.

Self-coaching doesn’t mean doing everything by yourself. You hold yourself accountable for your own development but no one said you cannot seek assistance from others. It is alright to ask a friend or a family member to remind you of your goals once in a while. You can ask for advice or seek feedback to make sure that you are on the right track. To keep your motivation to self-coach high, you can also seek inspiration from people you admire.

Monitor progress.

You need to devise some ways to see if your self-coaching goals are moving forward.  You can keep a journal to record your realistic goals as well as your action plan to achieve them. It is recommended to set a clear deadline for your objectives so you know when you are already stuck in one goal and make necessary adjustments.

No one is perfect and this is a tough world we live in. Thus, it is perfectly fine to ask for help from others from time to time. Still, at the end of the day, the only person that truly knows you by heart is yourself.  A mentor can give the best guidance, but their advice only works if you decide to apply it in your life. The truth is, the best guide in planning a surefire personal development plan for you is already within you. So strengthen your self-reliance and tap into your inner coach, you may just get better results!Five Strategies For Effective Self Coaching
